An Ode to My Favorite Printer

How you have helped me
And have always been patient
Print MD, my star

Having done a lot of print production work, I’ve used my fair share of printers. I’ve slowly started making a list of all the criteria for the perfect printer. Always look for reliability, adaptability, and quality.

My go-to printer is PrintMD, located in Long Island City. This husband and wife team, Mike and Mary Donegan, have saved me on so many printing occasions that it’s almost embarrassing that they still happen! They are truly a judgement-free zone. I’ve done it all, from sending RGB files to print (gasp!) to asking for proofs with a two-hour turnaround. They’ve talked me off ledges and have held my hand through so many projects that would have gone south without them.

Some people don’t appreciate the fine art of printing. You’ll know when you’re in the presence of a paper geek when you see them smell art after it’s been printed, hear them compare paper to food (because sometimes, it just feels like butta), and listen to them just go on and on about the process. They (along with others) have really given me an appreciation for it all.

I recently submitted a big project to them and they were so supportive every step of the way. I got four (!!) versions of a proof because there were very small things that needed to be adjusted. They recommended money saving versions of things. And when I expected a project to take days to print, they surprised me, and did it in record time. I bet they could feel my stress through the phone.

They’ve said to me so many times, “if you’re not happy, we’re not happy.” Why can’t everything in life be like that?

So thank you, PrintMD. Thank you, Mike and Mary, for everything that you’ve done for me. For peace of mind, for beautiful print work, and for making me the hero.
